Taco Mazama – Take Away
After an action packed day at Ibrox on Sunday watching the first match of the new season I was absolutely shattered by the time I got home so after a quick discussion with Mr Geek we decided to order some mexican food as we had a delivery from Pintos last week which we really enjoyed (I forgot to take pictures so I couldn’t write up a review..doh!), however tonight in the interests of being fair we decided to give Taco Mazama a try.
Now for the Mexican purest out there I know this isn’t actually real mexican food, but in all honest I don’t care what cuisines are called I just want my food to be tasty. I will be referring to it as Mexican, even tho I know this technically is like the McDonalds equivalent of actual Mexican food. Phew now we’ve got that out the way lets talk about the food 🙂
I use JustEat quite a bit, mostly because I can pay for my take aways with a debit card. So I placed my order for a Chargrilled Marinated Chicken Quesadilla which was described as Two medium flour tortillas filled with Monterey Jack cheese, caramelized onions & a choice of filling. Grilled and served with a side of salsa. I also ordered Barbacoa Shredded Beef Nachos with mild salsa, jalapeños and Monterey Jack cheese sauce. Mr Geek also ordered a taco…I never tried any of this so I won’t be commenting on it. Including 2 bottles of mineral water the order came to £19.71 including a £2.50 delivery charge.
After about 10 minutes I received a phone call to say they had no Barbacoa Shredded Beef for the nachos and would we like to pick something else, we decided on Beef & Chorizo Chilli – I am quite annoyed as I now realise that I paid £1 extra for the beef which we never got.
The food arrived after just 20 minutes after we ordered, absolutely brilliant super fast and I am afraid this is where the positives for me even sadly.
The Chargrilled Marinated Chicken Quesadilla first off was really hard and tough around the edges, there was really really little chicken..infact one of my quarters had no filling at all only a very thin layer of cheese, well I think there was cheese there was so little filling I couldn’t actually tell if there was anything in it. There was no caramelized onion in it either. Dry, tasteless and like chewy cardboard….extremely poor
The nachos were basically just a box of dry nachos with barely any topping. There was 5, yes 5 slices of jalapeno. None of the cheese sauce we ordered only a light dusting of chewy hard melted cheese. Basically under that top layer was just a box of cheap doritos. The tiny tub of salsa was definitely not made in-house and was pretty nasty tasting so we left that off.The small dollop of Beef & Chorizo Chilli was pretty tasteless and I could find no chorizo to speak of and most of this box of chips was left.
What a disappointment and what a shame, I had such high hopes for them as I know Pinto are kind of the big boys in this category with lots of money behind them and I really hoped to champion this small local business. In all honesty other than the 20 minute delivery time everything else was a bit of a let down. I probably wouldn’t go back, I’ll certainly never order take away from them again sadly.
