Since moving into the west end I almost always get my chinese take away food from the Amber on Byres Road, mostly because the food is pretty nice and I can order with them via JustEat. They are normally quite fast with delivery and the food travels well. I thought since I had introduced Take Away reviews to the blog it was about time I did one for here.
I have done a review of the Amber as a dine in restaurant, I have only eaten in here once as a member of staff was outrageously rude so I refuse to sit in there. I think the fact that I continue to order from here should give you some indication just how much I enjoy their food.
When you place an order on JustEat you are given an estimated delivery time, normally Amber do deliver within this time but when I placed this order on a Sunday evening at 7pm it did arrive 20 minutes after the suggested time. When it arrived it was in good condition and still hot.
The menu is exactly what you would expect of a classic Scottish Chinese take away menu, there is a delicious selection of starters a few of my favourites include the Prawn on Toast with Sesame Seeds and the Duck Pancake Rolls. In the mains section this is everything you would expect, sweet and sour, chow mien, curries and an assortment of other tempting dishes.
I decided to order the Chicken Breast Chow Mein and a side order of chips and Salt and Chilli Chips. The chow mein was a huge portion (I ate less than half) there was lots of tasty chunks of chicken breast and it was loaded with skinny noodles, crunchy bean sprouts and spring onion. This is one of my favourite dishes from the Amber and one I order often.
The chips are frozen but decent enough and again a large portion – more than enough for 3 or 4 people. The Salt and Chilli chips is the real reason I keep going back to the Amber, they are amazing. The chips themselves have crispy batter like coating but stay soft on the inside. Once cooked the chips are tossed in fried onions and chillies giving them just right hint of head without being ridiculously fiery.
I really like the take away food from the Amber and will continue to order from here, although if Ka Ka Lok every start doing home deliveries via JustEat they would be in trouble.
