Hutchesons Brunch

It was my birthday a few weeks ago which, as you can imagine, involved lots of eating out with Mr Geek. By now you should all know how important Brunch is to me – for my money – a weekend brunch is the best meal of the week and so on my birthday weekend it was pretty much a must.

Now there are lots of contenders for the best brunch in Glasgow but when it comes to Brunching in serious style the first place that comes to mind has to be Hutchesons.

The vibe is one of elegant decadence.  In a previous review, I described the decor as, ‘like being on board the Titanic.’ This is a comment I still stand by – there is beautiful cornicing, pretty floors and wood panelling everywhere, which can’t fail but to remind you of a by gone era of beauty and glamour. For my money, this is the most beautiful restaurant in Glasgow.

Menu Brunch Hurchesons May 2015

Fresh Orange Brunch Hurchesons May 2015

The brunch menu is so tempting – I think it is fair to say there is not one dish on this menu I wouldn’t order.

In the end I settled for my old favourite, Scrambled Egg and Smoked Salmon, which came served on a toasted muffin. I also ordered a toasted baguette. Hey! It was my birthday and mega carbs were allowed.

My dish was super tasty. The Scrambled Egg was light, fluffy and cooked perfectly; the Salmon lightly smoked and soft as butter.

The portion was generous, in fact there was so much Smoked Salmon that I actually struggled to finish it. Eggs and Salmon is such a classic combo and this dish definitely didn’t disappoint.

The baguette was…..well it was a toasted baguette!! It was great though and a HUGE portion and so I only finished about a 1/4 of it.

Salted Caramel Hot Choc Brunch Hurchesons May 2015

I decided to be uber good to myself and ordered an OMG-it’s-just-as-good-as-it-sounds Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate….it was everything a hot chocolate should be – rich, lush, creamy, dark and every so slightly bitter. Plus, when I got to the bottom there was a glob of salted caramel, which of course I ate!

Bill Brunch Hurchesons May 2015

Including Mr G’s lunch, the bill came to £35.20. After such a stunning, big and delicious brunch I was more than happy with the value for money.

A perfect birthday brunch which I every much enjoyed with Mr G to celebrate my 35th year of life. I can’t wait to go back again, which I am sure won’t be in the too distant future.

Looks delicious! It’s on my list from an architectural point of view as well as for the food, waiting for the scaffold to come down at the front though so I can get some good photos!
