Tantrum Doughnuts

Donut or Doughnut? That is the question.

If you asked me this time last year how I felt about ‘nuts I would have been pretty blasé about them…..They just weren’t on my radar at all. Mr Geek has always been partial to a jam filled donut but I always prefered a cookie or a cupcake.

All that has changed thanks to the fresh mega gorgeous donuts which can now be found at a few places in the West End.

I need to make a confession, when Tantrum Doughnut opened in Finnieston I wasn’t really in a hurry to visit. I had tried a Tantrum before at a pop up and wasn’t really that impressed.  But I have been hearing such amazing things and never being one to immediately write places off I wanted to give them another try.

I was sure that having a fresh donut directly from their shop would be a better experience – And boy was I right!

I popped in on a whim last week and was completely blown away.

Located on Old Dumbarton Road this small donut stop is cool and modern but clearly not really designed to doddle. There is a small kitchen area at the back where the magic happens, and at the front a couple of stools to sit and enjoy your donut with a coffee – but this is predominantly a take away.

After checking out all the lush sounding flavours I eventually settled on a classic Almond Buttermilk Old Fashioned ring and a Blueberry Cheesecake Crumble. I also picked up a Jam filled ‘nut for MrG

I set about the Blueberry Cheesecake Crumble as soon as I got home, and I am pleased to report that it was IN-credible. Lots of flavourful tangy compote encased in a soft sweet dough, topped with a heavenly cheesecake fondant that was just savory enough to balance out the tart blueberries, and this was then decorated with oodles of crunchy crumble bits.

SO GOOD!!! Not going to lie there was more than a few food-gasm noises coming from me while I devoured this in about 30 seconds flat.

The old fashioned was pretty good but to be honest was a bit of an anticlimax after the cheesecake donut…not that it was bad because it was really good. I was just so in love with my first donut that it paled a little in comparison.

Mr G also assures me that the Jam filled was excellent and he would definitely have one again – high praise indeed, he is very particular about his donuts.

Tantrum Doughnuts is an amazing little coffee and donut shop which has a real cult following and it is easy to see why. If you haven’t been to try it you need to mosey down soon to give it a bash and I am sure like me you will not regret it.
